Colin Bielckus
Owner, Avenue Business Services
I have been a Chartered Accountant since 1981 and have run Avenue Business Services (ABS) since 2002.
In addition to acting as a traditional chartered accountant, the ethos of ABS has been to provide financial and business skills to growing businesses that, in general, are not yet big enough to have their own finance director.
I act as business adviser, part-time finance director, company secretary or non-executive director, whatever my client wants to call the role.
My largest current clients include the following business sectors:
- Marine software
- Marine autopilots and similar
- Data management
- Public house and restaurant
- Educational charity
- Pension schemes
In addition, I have tried to put something back into the local voluntary sector and act as auditor or independent examiner for the local council for voluntary service and a number of the larger local churches, frequently at a less than economic fee.
The number of organisations in the charitable sector that I deal with as either auditor or independent examiner or as a trustee currently totals 14.
The largest current trusteeship is of a supported housing scheme for the elderly near Winchester. We are affiliated to a national organisation and have 24 flats under occupation. Annual turnover is in excess of £350k and I am the Treasurer, but with a general manager and an administrator dealing with day-to-day actions and monies. During my tenure, we have built a linkway between the two buildings and negotiated a loan with its bankers for the purpose.
In my non-business life I am Chairman of Finance at my local Town Council and a member of the District team in the Rotary organisation.
